Project provides comprehensive training for the National Centre for Animals & Plants Health and Food Safety

Representatives of the National Centre for Animals and Plants Health and Food Safety (NCAPHFS) are participating in a five-day training on minor uses authorisation and the practical application of residue data extrapolation, organised from 26 to 30 October 2026 in Chisinau, with the support of the EU- and Denmark-funded project “Moldova is Europe – Support for EU Integration”.

Delivered by the project’s senior expert Liga Brence, the training aims to strengthen participants’ knowledge and practical skills in assessing applications for the authorisation of plant protection products for minor uses, in line with European Union regulatory requirements and practices. Participants are exploring the documentation and supporting evidence required for such applications, as well as the assessment of product efficacy, phytotoxicity and potential risks.

A key component of the training is the practical application of residue data extrapolation, which allows existing residue trial data to be used to support authorisations for additional crops or uses when scientifically justified. Through case studies, group exercises and examples drawn from Latvian experience, participants are developing their ability to assess the relevance of residue trials, compare good agricultural practices, identify data gaps and determine when additional evidence is necessary.

The training also provides an opportunity to exchange experience on national procedures and identify practical ways to adapt relevant EU and Latvian approaches to the Moldovan context. Discussions will address the national legislative framework, as well as opportunities to improve the application of minor use authorisation procedures in the Republic of Moldova.

By combining regulatory guidance with hands-on exercises and professional exchange, the training contributes to strengthening institutional capacity and supporting the gradual alignment of Moldova’s plant protection product authorisation practices with EU standards.

The activity forms part of the broader support provided through the “Moldova is Europe” project to strengthen public institutions’ expertise and advance the country’s European integration agenda.
