Project Description
"Causeni Agri-Hub: community cooling and processing fruits and veggies infrastructure" project is a strategic investment supported by the European Union, with a total budget of EUR 660,000. The project focuses on establishing a modern community facility for the cooling and processing of fruits and vegetables in Caușeni district. This initiative addresses the critical need for local producers to access improved infrastructure for post-harvest handling, thus enhancing the competitiveness of agricultural products from the region. The project is implemented under the “Mayors for Economic Growth” Facility (2021-2024) – Phase II, which supports municipalities and towns in the Eastern Partnership countries, including the Republic of Moldova, to foster local economic development.
Specific Objective
1. To stimulate economic growth and enhance the competitiveness of the agri-food sector in Causeni;
2. To create sustainable jobs by supporting local farmers, cooperatives, and small businesses involved in fruit and vegetable production;
3. To improve the quality and market value of locally produced fruits and vegetables through modern processing and storage infrastructure;
4. To strengthen local economic resilience by fostering cooperation among farmers and promoting collective use of community infrastructure;
5. To promote green energy solutions and resource efficiency within the Agri-Hub, supporting the transition to sustainable practices.
Expected Results
1. Installation of modern equipment for washing, cleaning, and preparing fruits and vegetables;
2. Creation of a rapid cooling and freezing system for fruit blanching and preservation;
3. Establishment of a processing and packaging line to add value to locally produced fruits and vegetables;
4. Implementation of a traceability and stock management system, improving inventory control and product quality monitoring;
5. Deployment of a renewable energy source to partially power the facility, reducing operational costs and the carbon footprint;
6. Direct benefits for the local producers who will have access to the hub’s services;
6. Contribution to the creation of new jobs in the region, both directly at the hub and indirectly in the agricultural supply chain;
7. Enhanced attractiveness of Causeni as a regional centre for agri-food processing, encouraging further investments and collaborations.
