
The European Union remains the main trading partner of the Republic of Moldova: Over 64% of exports went to the community market in the first six months of 2026
The European Union (UE) is strengthening its position as the main trading partner of the Republic of Moldova. In the first six months of 2026, 64.2% of Moldova’s total exports were directed to EU member countries, registering an increase of 0.2 percentage points compared to the January–June 2025 period.
According to data published by the National Bureau of Statistics (statistica.gov.md), the total value of shipments to the community market reached 1.06 billion euros, marked by a 12.7% increase compared to the same period last year.
During the January–June 2026 period, the main destination countries for the exports of the Republic of Moldova, according to official data, were Romania with 450.02 million EUR (27.27%), Italy with 163.27 million EUR (9.89%), Czechia with 141.71 million EUR (8.59%), Germany with 89.30 million EUR (5.41%), Poland with 40.61 million EUR (2.46%), Bulgaria with 40.10 million EUR (2.43%), Greece with 30.00 million EUR (1.82%), the Netherlands with 22.06 million EUR (1.39%), France with 20.07 million EUR (1.22%), and Hungary with 14.05 million EUR (0.90%).
In the structure of exports, the most important categories of traded goods included electrical machinery and apparatus, seeds and oleaginous fruits, cereals and cereal-based preparations, vegetables and fruit, clothing and accessories, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, furniture, metal ores and metal waste, vegetable fats and oils, articles of non-metallic minerals, petroleum products, as well as processed metal articles.
