In Rezina district, living conditions are improving with the support of the EU. At Rezina District Hospital, investments of more than €275,000 have contributed to the modernisation of the surgery and infectious diseases departments. The surgery department was renovated to provide better conditions during medical procedures and recovery. The infectious diseases department, which had been operating in a damaged building, was completely refurbished and equipped with air purification systems and communication systems for patients to contact medical staff. Doctors can work in better conditions, while people from Rezina, the Transnistrian region and neighbouring districts have access to medical services in safer facilities, closer to home.
European investments go beyond the hospital, supporting the restoration of local heritage and the development of businesses in the district’s villages. In Mateuți, a project worth approximately MDL 3 million provides for the construction of a station for volunteer firefighters. In Țîpova, around €72,000 is earmarked for the conservation of the rock-hewn monastery. European investments have also improved conditions for patients in the infectious diseases, surgery and intensive care departments of Rezina Hospital. For patients and medical staff, these investments mean improved spaces for healthcare and medical work.
With EU support, a chess school has also been renovated, while the bridge to Rîbnița has been equipped with new lighting. In Lalova and Cinișeuți, local businesses are using European support to purchase modern equipment and operate in a more environmentally friendly way.

Mateuți: a station for volunteer firefighters
In Mateuți, an EU-funded project provides for the construction of a facility for the local volunteer firefighters. The investment aims to provide the team with better conditions for organising emergency responses and protecting the community. Estimated project value: approximately MDL 3 million.
Chess brings children from both banks together
Almost 100 children attend the chess school in Rezina, renovated and equipped with support from the European Union. The “Chess Without Borders” project also modernised the chess club in Rîbnița, giving children from both banks better spaces for training and opportunities to meet around the chessboard. EU investment: €110,000 for the joint Rezina–Rîbnița project.
Țîpova: rock-hewn heritage protected for the future
The rock-hewn monastery in Țîpova is part of a restoration and conservation project financed by the EU and implemented by UNDP. The planned interventions aim to protect the monument and preserve one of the district’s iconic sites for the community and visitors. Estimated budget: approximately €72,000.
Rezina: new equipment for maintaining the town
The municipal enterprise “Servicii Comunal-Locative Rezina” received a Zetor Major CL80 tractor through an EU grant. The machinery can be used to maintain infrastructure and respond to emergencies – practical support for services essential to the smooth functioning of the town. Tractor value: MDL 760,500.
Rezina–Rîbnița bridge lit up again
After remaining unlit since 1993, the bridge between Rezina and Rîbnița received a new lighting system with support from the EU and the local community. The investment has made crossing the bridge at night safer and introduced more energy-efficient lighting fixtures. EU contribution: €34,000 | Total budget: €49,000.
Lalova: investments for recreation on the Dniester
At “Hanul lui Hanganu” guesthouse, EU support for business development was invested in infrastructure that enables the accommodation of guests. A MDL 200,000 grant supported the installation of a wastewater treatment system, while another MDL 247,000 was allocated to modernising the electrical system. The investments help the guesthouse operate more efficiently and reduce its environmental impact.
Lalova: better conditions for firefighters’ response
The volunteer firefighters’ station in Lalova was included in a programme to modernise ten stations across the country. The funding is intended to improve the conditions in which the local team works, supporting an essential service in a rural community: responding to fires and other emergencies. The investment is provided through a MDL 418,000 grant under an EU-funded programme.
Signs to help discover the Dniester’s natural sites
Six information panels and tourist signs have been installed in the nature reserves of Țîpova, Saharna and Iagorlîc. For visitors to sites in Rezina district, they provide useful directions and information to help them discover the area. The improvements were made from a joint budget of €18,000 allocated for Țîpova, Saharna and Iagorlîc.
Rezina: an auto service equipped for large vehicles
A young entrepreneur from Rezina equipped his auto service with tyre-fitting, welding and mobile generator equipment. European support helped him develop services for cars and trucks, including for customers from the Transnistrian region. The support was provided through a €13,400 EU grant.
Mateuți: a family trade passed down through generations
Inspired by her father’s profession, Ludmila Donica opened a modern carpentry workshop in Mateuți. With €12,500 in EU support, the business was equipped with machinery for producing furniture, shutters, railings and customised engravings. A family tradition thus became the foundation for a business developed at home.
Cinișeuți: better working conditions in a furniture workshop
Entrepreneur Liudmila Cozacenco invested a MDL 170,000 grant (provided with support from the Government and the EU) in modern dust-extraction systems for her upholstered furniture workshop. The equipment has improved working conditions and product quality. The investment is part of a broader modernisation process for the business, including new machinery and green energy.
Rezina: an idea turned into a salt room
Irina Bordian opened a salt room in Rezina with support from the “Women in Business” programme, financed from the state budget and co-financed by the European Union (total budget: MDL 139,000 through a co-financed programme). Designed with spaces for adults and children, the business has attracted visitors from Rezina and other localities, adding a new service to the local offer.
