More efficient and secure borders for Moldovan citizens thanks to EU support

29/01/2025

The citizens of the Republic of Moldova benefit from increased efficiency and security at the border thanks to new equipment provided to the General Inspectorate of Border Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs by the European Union through the project “Supporting the protection, transit, voluntary and informed return and reintegration of Eastern Partnership and third-country nationals affected by the conflict in Ukraine” implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The provided mobile technology systems offer a flexible and efficient solution, allowing for rapid relocation, adaptation to different operational conditions and coverage of large areas, overcoming the limitations of physical barriers. The new advanced monitoring technologies will optimize control at official border crossing points and improve detection of attempted irregular crossings in unauthorized areas.

“The integration of this equipment into existing systems will improve the response to challenges such as uncontrolled migration, human trafficking and smuggling. Thus, by modernizing the surveillance infrastructure and increasing the operational capacity, authorities’ interventions will be faster and more effective”, said Mariana Lucreteanu, State Secretary of the Ministry of Interior.

With this cutting-edge technology, the General Inspectorate of Border Police will be able to strengthen the state border surveillance, protecting the safety of citizens and guaranteeing national security.

Ester Ruiz de Azua, IOM Moldova’s Chief of Mission: “IOM continues to provide assistance to national authorities to ensure protection oriented and human rights based, uninterrupted and efficient border management process which is in line with international standards.”
