The Social Reintegration of Vulnerable and Marginalised Older People in Rural Communities of Southern Moldova

Project Description
The EU funded project is aiming to increase the social reintegration of vulnerable and marginalised older people into Moldovan society through strengthening of civil society organisations in the rural communities of south Moldova and to facilitate their engagement with both local and national government. It focuses on social reintegration of vulnerable and marginalized older people while promoting community service and volunteerism.
The previously supported project involving an experienced ageing-specific NGO in the north of the country is providing expert knowledge to an NGO in the south to support older people in rural areas.
Specific Objective
- To further develop the civil society network and older people’s representative groups to reduce poverty and social exclusion of vulnerable older people in Moldova.
- To support activities to help create best practice models of income generation by the self-help groups of older persons.
- To develop the draft of the national strategy on ageing for Moldova through broad participatory and consultative process.
- To open a national Resource Centre, which will provide consultative and capacity building interventions for civil society and public agencies.
Expected Results
- To enrich learning by having perspectives from the South and North of Moldova working together.
- To provide valuable insights into North-South diversity, which will enable having a broader perspective of issues confronting older people across the country.
- To highlight older people issues at Central/Republican level with the relevant ministries, institutional donors and civil society networks, which has begun modestly to mainstream older people issues as far as development aid and institutional reforms processes are concerned.
