Supporting Independent Media and Information Resilience (SIMIR) in Moldova

Project Description
The “Supporting Independent Media and Information Resilience (SIMIR) in Moldova” project is implemented by Internews and funded by the European Union. SIMIR contributes to stability in Moldova through improved resilience to disinformation by strengthening independent media and promoting local voices.

The project supports professional independent media and develops the critical thinking skills of citizens. In this regard, Internews provides emergency grants to up to 20 Moldovan media to stay afloat and produce uninterrupted credible content for the public. To improve audiences’ skills in identifying and recognizing disinformation, the project selected 6 civil society and media organisations to implement community activities.

Finally, the project modernizes the Audiovisual Council of Moldova with software and equipment necessary to improve its media monitoring and better react to gaps in publicly important disinformation in programming.
Specific Objective
The overall objective of the project is to contribute to stability in Moldova through residents’ improved resilience to disinformation by strengthening independent media and by promoting local voices.
Expected Results
The project aims to achieve the following results:
Expected result 1: Uninterrupted and inclusive content production and dissemination of quality information to audiences from trusted local sources
Expected result 2: Residents are better able to identify disinformation and withstand malign influences.
