The European Union financed the technical documentation of 27 infrastructure projects

Technical documentation for 27 infrastructure projects in the field of energy efficiency (EE) and water supply and sanitation (WSS) was completed with the support of the European Union (EU). The technical design projects are planned to improve the EE school conditions for up to 5,000 pupils and teachers and water supply and/or sanitation services for up to 140,000 people (and additionally 28,000 as indirect beneficiaries).

The elaboration of technical documentation for 19 projects in the field of water supply and sanitation and 8 projects in the field of energy efficiency in public buildings was following an earlier regional planning and programming process. The EU began to support regional development in the Republic of Moldova in 2013 and regional development sector was included as a significant chapter in the EU – Moldova Association Agreement.

The development of technical documentation for 27 projects will be followed by a stage of implementing 18 prioritized projects for the construction of the infrastructure itself. The procurement of construction works for the selected projects through the RDAs is planned for January 2020, for which the EU is offering 32.6 million euros, and the local contribution currently confirmed is at nearly 2.5 million euros.

In June 2016, GIZ and the Delegation of the European Union (EU) in Moldova signed the Grant Agreement on “Elaboration of technical projects and tender documentation for construction works in selected projects related to the field of WSS and EE in three development regions of Moldova”. The total budget of the Action was 3.5 million euros granted by the EU and 325.000 euros offered by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
