Young Moldovan Graduates Choose to Work in Moldova
Virginia Plaiu, a young graduate of the Faculty of Letters at Moldova State University, has always been passionate about languages. In addition to being fluent in English and Romanian, she also speaks French, Ukrainian, and Russian at a conversational level. During her internship as part of the joint programme between the European Union and the Government of the Republic of Moldova, she was particularly keen to learn more about the Translation Service within the Bureau for European Integration. So, when she later came across a job vacancy in that very department, she did not hesitate to apply.
Now, Virginia is responsible for developing and implementing a unified translation methodology for legal texts, ensuring linguistic accuracy in official documents related to European integration, and managing translation and terminology databases. She is also actively involved in legal translation work.
Reflecting on her experience, Virginia believes that the EU Internship Programme in Moldova was invaluable, giving her first-hand insight into legislative processes. She also considers it an important addition to any student’s CV, especially for recent graduates looking to enter the job market: “I chose a career in the public sector because I strongly believe that professionalism and dedication among those working in state institutions are crucial—especially now that Moldova is a candidate country for EU membership. I see young people as the driving force behind our country’s transformation, and their presence in public institutions is essential for bringing fresh perspectives, modern ideas, and a strong commitment to European integration.”
Looking ahead, Virginia sees her future firmly in Moldova: “By 2030, I truly hope that Moldova will become a full member of the European Union. This ambitious goal is certainly achievable through hard work and determination. I see myself contributing—alongside my colleagues and society as a whole—to this European journey, convinced that professionalism and individual engagement are key to its success. Moldova’s EU accession is a real opportunity to build a more secure and prosperous future for all our citizens, and I believe in that.”
