The Dairy and Meat Processing Sector will be modernized with EU and Danish support

Moldova is taking another step towards safer food, modern food production and better opportunities for its producers, with support from the European Union and Denmark: a national programme to upgrade facilities that process milk, meat and other products of animal origin is being developed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, with support of the EU- and Denmark-funded ‘Moldova is Europe – Support for EU Integration’. The programme will establish a clear framework for assessing and improving dairy and meat processing facilities across the country, bringing them in line with European standards and strengthening the systems used to ensure food safety.
For consumers, this will mean stronger food safety controls and greater confidence in the products they buy. For farmers and food producers, it will mean support in meeting EU requirements and creating better conditions for Moldovan products to reach European markets.
In this context, from 28 September to 2 October 2026, project’s experts Vlatka Vrdoljak Goossens and Jellen Goossens are sharing with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, as well as Food Safety Agency, their experience and expertise in assessing, classifying, upgrading and monitoring facilities that process food of animal origin. Their work includes recommendations, training and support for the development of the national upgrading programme, as well as raising awareness among food business operators of the main principles of EU food safety legislation and the process of assessment and categorization of food establishments.
This work will contribute directly to safer food for consumers, a stronger agri-food sector and greater opportunities and competitiveness for Moldovan products on the European market.
