Florești: Solar energy for the district hospital

A hospital needs electricity to power medical equipment, laboratories, lighting and its daily operations. European Union funding of €500,000 for a project covering five hospitals, including Florești District Hospital, contributed to the modernisation of the medical institution. The photovoltaic panels installed at Florești District Hospital help cover part of its electricity consumption with energy produced from renewable sources.

The institution is one of five hospitals supported through the “Addressing the Impact of the Energy Crisis in the Republic of Moldova” programme, funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP. The total funding for the five institutions amounts to €500,000, while the combined capacity of the systems is 600 kW.

The project aims to reduce energy costs and emissions. For medical institutions, lower costs can free up resources for other patient needs.
