The European Union and UNDP offer grants of 20 thousand dollars for journalistic content on energy

The European Union and UNDP are supporting media outlets from the Republic of Moldova in their efforts to inform the population about developments in the energy sector and debunk myths related to energy and climate.

The deadline for submitting funding applications is 27 September at 9 p.m., and the implementation time frame is October 2023 – 15 January 2024. Among the costs eligible for financing are salaries and fees for key personnel (journalists, translators, editors, operators, designers, accountants, fundraisers), travel costs directly related to the production activity of deliverables, and costs related to the placement and promotion of the produced materials. Registered media organizations with more than 3 years of experience, an independent editorial policy and a demonstrated commitment to professional and ethical journalism are eligible for funding.

With a budget of 13 million euros allocated by the European Union, the „Addressing the impacts of the energy crisis in the Republic of Moldova” programme, implemented by UNDP, supported the creation of the compensatii.gov.md platform and will launch a campaign to replace old household appliances with new ones that are energy efficient. The programme finances the installation of photovoltaic panels in households and a few hospitals, as well as the change of central heating systems in several blocks to much more efficient horizontal distribution systems.

In addition, the programme provides support for the transposition of the EU’s Third Energy Package into both primary and secondary legislation, as well as the transposition of a number of Directives and Regulations of the Clean Energy for All Europeans package, which address the performance energy efficiency of buildings, renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, good governance and electricity market design.
