The "Moldovan Railways Fleet Renewal" project consists of restructuring the national railway company, CFM, as well as enhancing the efficiency and safety of railway operations.

- Acquisition of new locomotives to offer higher service quality, energy efficiency benefits and the reduction in operating costs.
- Feasibility study to identify priority investments in CFM infrastructure.
- Financing priority investments in infrastructure (Bender-Basarabeasca-Etulia line) and related design and supervision services.
- Provision of financial support to the initial planning and implementation stages of a phased redundancy programme as part of the CFM restructuring programme.
- Implementation of Energy Management Information System (EMIS).
- Provision of institutional support to CFM through policy dialogue to implement the railway sector reform programme and capacity building in the areas of procurement, project implementation, energy efficiency, environmental and social management support, retrenchment assistance and corporate governance.
