The EU and the German development agency Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) are currently supporting the implementation of eight energy efficiency projects in the Republic of Moldova. The projects started in 2018 and will run until 2021, and are aimed at improving energy efficiency in educational institutions throughout Moldova.

The projects with a total budget of €12.7 million will contribute to a better and more comfortable study environment for 4,400 students and 500 teachers. The energy efficiency measures will result in lower electricity bills and savings that can be used for other services.

Improving the energy efficiency infrastructure will include fixing roofs, full insulation, repairing boiler plants, improving ventilation systems and installing new outdoor lighting. The projects will help reduce the institutions’ CO2 emissions and protect the environment.
